'Mother's necklace'
Only about 7 miles from the summit of Everest, the spire seen here is a common sight for those climbing the world's highest mountain. Ama Dablam's name means 'mother's necklace' in Nepali, referring to traditional pendants worn by local Sherpa women—though the mountain's swooping shape is also said to resemble a mother cradling a child. Easily identified by its picture-perfect pyramidal peak, Ama Dablam is one of the great landmarks of Sagarmatha National Park (but topped, of course, by the park's namesake).
