Today we’re peering over the edge of Nohsngithiang Falls, a picturesque waterfall in the East Khasi Hills of Meghalaya, north-east India, one of the wettest regions on Earth. The water here plunges from a height of 1,033 ft (315m), in seven sections and is also known as the Seven Sisters Waterfalls. Arranged side-by-side over the limestone cliffs of the Khasi Hills, they look compelling even from a distance, if you visit at the right time. This stunning waterfall is seasonal and only flows during the rainy season (June to September) so timing is everything. It’s also best visited at sunset, when the sun’s rays hit the torrents of water, creating beautiful rainbows.
