Sky-high views
Talk about a room with a view. Yes, stunning views of Hobart are a dime-a-dozen here at Mt Wellington’s Pinnacle Observation Shelter, making it easy to understand why it’s so popular with the locals. Mount Wellington itself, also known as kunanyi in the Indigenous Tasmanian language of Palawa kani, reaches heights of 1,270 meters above sea level and is the tallest mountain in the Wellington Range - an area rich with possibility. Some visit to bushwalk, while others enjoy 4WD adventures or quiet picnics, however even though winter is almost over, it’s a region known to cop its fair share of biting winds and frost.
Still prefer to stay rugged up? Not to fear, because the City of Hobart has placed two webcams at the summit of kunanyi/Mt Wellington – one showing off a view of the towns below, the other of the Derwent estuary, allowing to plenty of stellar sights from the comfort of your couch!
