Bonsai, the careful trimming of trees so they maintain a miniature figure into maturity, is an ancient art celebrating harmony with delicate nature. The four trees on Bonsai Rock are puny for a less profound reason: There just aren't many nutrients for a tree to absorb on a water-bound boulder. Still, as sunset enlightens Lake Tahoe's smooth surface, the 'bonsai' serve as fine accents to a very zen scene.
