Not unlike a visit to the local clubs, these age-old attractions might leave you dizzy: A total of sixteen 16th-century windmills spin within Mykonos' main village. Best known today as a cruise stop with a rowdy nightlife, this Cycladean island is full of markers memorializing its millennia of history. Mykonos was already inhabited when migrants from Athens arrived in the 11th century BCE, and in the intervening centuries has been ruled by the Romans, Byzantines, Venetians (who built the windmills), Ottomans, and finally by modern Greece. Quite the wide geopolitical palette for a place where practically everything is painted white or blue.
