Billowing like a tie-dyed blanket, the dune patch known as the Seven Coloured Earths adds a rainbow dusting to this already-colorful island nation. The sands are said to come in brown, red, yellow, orange, green, blue, and purple—mainly due to varying levels of iron and aluminum oxides. Though under private ownership, the field is open to the public most days with a small admission fee, and has become one of Mauritius' most popular tourist attractions. If the trip here tired you out, no worries: The surrounding village of Chamarel has a perfect climate for coffee production, and tasting tours offer sips from several growers in the area.
