Helping horns?

This gentle, horned giant is just one of the iconic—and endangered—African species protected here at the Ol Pejeta Conservancy in the heart of Kenya. The southern white rhinoceros, once nearly extinct, has made a slow comeback thanks to conservation efforts like those at Ol Pejeta. Sadly, its northern counterpart is in a much tougher spot: Najin and Fatu, a mother-daughter pair of northern white rhinos who also live in Ol Pejeta, are the last of their species on Earth. But they might have a lifeline left: Biologists aim to bring the species back from the brink by implanting northern rhino embryos into southern rhino surrogate mothers.
