Where history stands watch. Kunětická hora Castle, Bohemia, Czechia
What stories could these walls tell? Rising above eastern Bohemia in Czechia, Kunětická hora Castle has witnessed centuries of history. Dating to the late 14th century, the castle gradually evolved into an impressive fortress and noble residence. Its elevated position offered commanding views of the surrounding countryside and helped make it an important stronghold.
The complex reached its height in the 16th century, when the powerful Pernštejn family transformed it into a grand late Gothic and Renaissance stronghold. Later centuries brought decline and neglect, and parts of the site were even lost to stone quarrying. Restoration began in the early 20th century, helping preserve the landmark visitors see today.
Visitors can explore historic rooms and exhibitions, climb the tower for panoramic views and discover the legends associated with the castle. Rising above the Elbe lowlands, Kunětická hora Castle remains a striking reminder of Bohemia's medieval past.
