Partners in the wild. Wolf Awareness Week
Two grey wolves move through the sagebrush of Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming, home to some of North America's most closely watched wolf packs. Their thick coats help them withstand harsh winters, and their keen senses make them skilled hunters and communicators.
During Wolf Awareness Week, people around the world recognise the important role that wolves play in healthy ecosystems. Grey wolves are highly social animals that typically live in family groups, or packs, and work together to hunt, defend their territory and raise their young. After disappearing from Yellowstone in the early 20th century, they were reintroduced to the park in 1995 as part of a landmark conservation effort that restored the species to one of its most iconic habitats.
Today, Yellowstone remains one of the best places to observe these predators, offering a glimpse into the lives of one of the continent's most celebrated wildlife species.
