Wander often, wonder more. Natchez Trace Parkway, Mississippi, United States
Today's image features the Natchez Trace Parkway near Tupelo, United States. Long before modern maps, bison and other large animals carved the first paths here, later followed by Native Americans and, much later, 'Kaintuck' traders walking hundreds of kilometres home after selling goods along the Mississippi. The route reflects around 10,000 years of human history and even links to Andrew Jackson, who travelled it during the War of 1812.
Now stretching 715 kilometres, parts of the original trail still appear as a 'sunken trace,' worn down by centuries of footsteps. Along the way, you'll find ancient sites like the Pharr Mounds and even the grave of Meriwether Lewis. Designed for slow travel, with no commercial traffic, the parkway also features striking modern touches like its award-winning bridge.
Time on trails can help lower stress, improve mood and ease stiffness from long hours of sitting. Step out, move a little and let the trail do the rest.
