A tribute to trees. Arbor Day
Arbor Day celebrates the quiet power of trees—the way they steady ecosystems, shelter wildlife, cool cities, and shape the environments we rely on every day. Observed in the United States on the last Friday in April, the day encourages communities here—and in many other countries, where dates vary according to growing season—to plant, protect, and care for forests of every kind, from neighborhood canopies to iconic wildlands.
In Florida's Everglades National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, elevated pinelands rise above the marshes and prairies that form one of the world's largest wetland systems. Seen here, sunlit slash pines and saw palmetto create open woodlands that contrast sharply with the Everglades' vast wetlands and mangrove forests. On Arbor Day, landscapes like this offer a clear reminder of how essential trees are to the health and balance of this remarkable subtropical ecosystem.
