Enjoy the jungle adventure captured in today's photo, as a group of tigers strolls through Ranthambore National Park. India is the global stronghold of these robust cats, with more than 70% of the world's tiger population finding a home within its diverse landscapes. Given the significance of these majestic species, India adopted the tiger as its national animal in April 1972, following a recommendation by the National Board for Wildlife.
Situated in the eastern part of Rajasthan, Ranthambore National Park covers an area of 1,334 square kilometres. Estamblished in 1955 as Sawai Madhopur Game Sanctuary, the park was recognised as one of the Project Tiger reserves in 1973, based on its commitment to the conservation of the Bengal tiger. The area was declared a national park and received its current name in 1980.
