Republic Day is observed every year on January 26 to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India and reaffirm of the nation's foundational ideals. In the years following independence, the foundation for the subsequent development of the Indian Constitution was laid, marking the country's transformation into a democratic republic on this day in 1950.
The Ministry of Defence is responsible for organising the Republic Day parade in New Delhi, a showcase of national pride. Beginning at Rashtrapati Bhavan, the President's residence, and moving along the Rajpath, including Raisina Hill and India Gate, this event is the highlight of the three-day-long celebrations. The parade is a vibrant display of India's defence capabilities and cultural and social heritage. Nine to twelve regiments of the Indian Army, along with the Navy and Air Force, march in regal finery and highlight the unity of India's security forces on this prestigious occasion.
