Holsten Gate in Lübeck, Germany
The Holsten Gate was constructed to protect the western boundary of the city the Hanseatic city of Lübeck and is one of the two surviving city gates of the city along with the Citadel Gate. It was built in 1464 in a brick gothic style, comprising of a central building with an archway entrance, a north and south tower. It is an antiquity and a remnant of Lübeck’s early city fortifications. The gate has two sides, the field side and the city side. There are some inscriptions on both the sides of the gate that add to the historic charm of this medieval relic.
