The Wuhou Temple in the city of Chengdu has been attracting visitors for nearly 1,800 years and remains one of the most popular attractions in China. Located in Sichuan province, this temple complex was built to honour military strategist Zhuge Liang and Emperor Liu Bei of the Shu Han state (221-263) in China's early Three Kingdoms period. The name ‘Wuhou’ comes from the Chinese title ‘Marquis of Wu’, which was an honorary title given to Zhuge Liang, who is one of China's most important historical figures. The Wuhou Temple complex is about 37,000 square metres in size and contains winding, peaceful paths lined by trees like the one in our photo. As well as the temples dedicated to Zhuge Liang and Liu Bei, there is also a famous garden, a mausoleum and important cultural relics.
