Picture perfect. A picture perfect shore
We're looking out from a cavern on the shores of the largest of the USA’s five Great Lakes, Lake Superior in Michigan. This area is Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, which gets its name from its colourful sandstone cliffs, stretching 15 miles along Lake Superior’s shores. As groundwater leaches out of the rocks, it carries with it minerals like iron, manganese and copper which tint the cliffs in shades of red, pink, green and black. The park itself boasts waterfalls, beaches and striking rock formations (some of which look like human faces and castle turrets) carved over time by the waves and weather.
