Infinity Bridge in Stockton-on-Tees

It's ∞ Day!
Welcome to the Infinity Bridge in Stockton-on-Tees, a fitting location for our homepage on what some call Infinity Day. As 8 looks like a tilted ∞, the symbol for infinity first popularised in 17th-century maths books, what better day than 8 August (8/8) to contemplate the immeasurable?
The bridge, which carries pedestrians and cyclists over the River Tees in north-east England, wasn't designed with the infinite in mind. But the residents of Stockton-on-Tees thought the tilted figure-of-eight created by the reflected structure was reminiscent enough of the infinity symbol that Infinity Bridge became its official name when it was completed in 2008. It looks great at sunset, as our image shows, and continues to shine at night as sensor-driven LED lighting changes colour as people walk and cycle over it.
