Sweeping views of autumn colour. Sweeping views of autumn colour
Welcome to the Uncompahgre Forest, in the shadow of Chimney Rock, the perfect place to see autumn colours in the US state of Colorado. Chimney Rock and its neighbour, Courthouse Mountain, dominate the landscape here all year round but the area becomes even more scenic at this time of year.
The forest gets its name from the people who have historically lived here, a band of Ute Native Americans called the Uncompahgre Ute People. The Ute People came to what is now Colorado and Utah around the year 1300 and usually spent their autumns travelling to make offerings to the spirits and to hunt buffalo. And, we presume, to admire the spectacular autumn colours.
