A symbol of good luck. Japan’s sacred crane
The Japanese crane, also called the red-crowned crane for the red patch of skin on top of its head, is among the rarest cranes in the world. It’s known in some cultures as a symbol of luck and longevity, making it an ideal mascot for tonight’s Super Bowl, which is expected to be watched by more than 150 million people worldwide. This particular crane seems to be getting into the spirit of things by practising its kicking. Other animals that have served as good luck symbols around the world include the pig, mandarin duck and albatross. Do you have a good luck charm?
